Yolanda Díaz Pérez

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Economy of Spain

 

Ms Yolanda Díaz Pérez (Fene, 1971) has a Degree in Law. In January 2020 she was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Economy and her first big agreement was the increase of the Minimum Wage, which currently benefits more than two million employees. In March 2021 she took office as Vice-President of the Government of Spain. To tackle the Covid-19 crisis’ consequences she set up a flexible temporary employment regulation scheme (ERTE) that successfully protected 3.6 million workers and over half a million enterprises. As Labour Minister she has fostered more than 20 great agreements through social dialogue. Among them are far-reaching measures such as the Labour Reform. Spain is currently at its lowest unemployment rate since 2008. Díaz has also driven pioneering legislation that recognizes labour rights for workers of digital delivery platforms. This law became the basis for the Directive on working conditions for digital platform workers. And her fight against pay gap has materialized in regulations on equality and equality of pay. She also redeemed a historic debt with domestic employees through recognition of unemployment benefits and paid sick leave.
